We were listening to a random mix CD while taking Fred, the Penitent Intern, to his weekly viola lesson. A few interesting songs came up, starting with an unexpected Christmas song – Judy Garland singing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
Judy Garland had an amazing voice, maybe the best we’d ever heard. And we were intrigued by some of the lyrics…
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more
Through the years we all will be together
If the Fates allow
The song is from the 1944 film Meet Me in St. Louis.
We were left with a few lingering questions – what’s with the creepy monkeys? did Judy learn nothing from The Wizard of Oz?
Let’s check in with the Fates. Christmas seems to have mellowed them out a bit.
Anyhow….
Le Hoogie Boogie
Another delightful find on the mix CD was Le Hoogie Boogie.
