An innocent woman was murdered by armed, masked agents of our government yesterday.
On January 7, 2026, Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old woman and US citizen, was fatally shot by a United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Good was idling in a car at the scene of an ongoing ICE operation, when she was approached by ICE agents who gave conflicting orders. After driving near an ICE agent, Good was shot in the head by the agent.
“Renee was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known,” she said. “She was extremely compassionate. She’s taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an amazing human being.”
Speakers at an evening vigil disclosed few details of Good’s life but were resolute in honoring her as a good neighbor who was protecting others.
“She was peaceful, she did the right thing,” said Jaylani Hussein, the executive director of CAIR-MN. “She died because she loved her neighbors.”
Heather Cox Richardson provides truth and clarity. I strongly encourage everyone to read her analysis.
This morning, a federal agent from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good as she was driving away from ICE agents on a residential street in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
According to Minneapolis leaders, Good was a legal observer: a volunteer trained to observe police conduct in case of future legal action.
Three videos taken at the scene show a maroon SUV perpendicular on a snowy street. A silver SUV driving up the street stops. Two officers wearing badges that say “police” and body armor get out of the vehicle and walk toward the maroon car.
One of them says, “Get out of the f*cking car,” and the other reaches through the open driver’s side window while trying to open the door. The driver backs up the vehicle, and straightens the wheel as if making a three-point turn. Then she starts slowly to accelerate along the street.
A third officer who has been standing on the side of the road pulls out a gun as the car is turning away. He shoots three times. The maroon car does not hit anyone as it rolls up the street, hitting another vehicle and then a utility pole. The shooter walks briskly away, apparently uninjured.
ICE agents prevented a bystander who identified himself as a physician from providing medical aid to the driver. No medical aid was provided for about 15 minutes and when medical first responders arrived, their vehicles could not access the site because of the ICE vehicles and they had to walk to the driver.

This was the scene a few minutes after the murder. Is this asshole smiling? Job well done?
These ICE agents are attracted to violence. They get off on violence and cruelty. They are going to re-live this murder with their buddies over beers.
We Must Temper Our Anger
Renee Good was murdered by a cowardly ICE agent. Of this, there is no doubt. But images and a name are being circulated on the Internet. There is a possibility that these images are generated with AI. It is important that we do not dox the wrong person. In time, this coward will be named and held accountable. We must hate well.
What we do know is the car that this coward fled in, moments after the shooting. We do not know if this was his personal vehicle.
[update 3:25pm 1/8/2026: The Guardian is officially reporting the name of the ICE murderer as Jonathan David Ross.]
Legal analyst Ian Millhiser found it unlikely that the federal government would charge the shooter with a crime, but said it may be possible for state prosecutors to lay homicide charges against him. The previous year, the Supreme Court ruled in Martin v. United States that federal officers are protected from prosecution only to the extent that they acted in a “necessary and proper” fashion in the discharge of their official duties.
How can we honor Renee Good’s life? We must stay engaged and be as effective as possible.
An aspect of being effective: I am all for freedom of expression. But the reality is that appearance matter. I’d like to suggest the following to my fellow resistance brothers and sisters: when attending protests and memorials, dress conservatively. Guys, consider wearing a tie. Consider getting a short hair cut and shaving the beard. You want to be taken seriously.
Why do I suggest this? Because Fox News will isolate the image of the scruffiest vagabond and use his or her image as the poster child of the antifascists. But a group of conservatively dressed protesters will destroy that false narrative. It will add gravitas to the photos and videos. Yes, it is a sacrifice, but consider it a badge of honor and a sign of your commitment. Play the long game.
Perhaps view historical images of the Civil Rights protesters, and see if the images of conservatively dressed marchers promoted a positive response.
