Gentle People – as may have been blotted, my spousal unit and I have the privilege of co-parenting two young orange cats.
They have a real affinity for our laundry room sink. It is their safe space where they can ponder the world they have been brought into and their current lifestyle.
We were inspired to name them Teddy and Izzy. Teddy since the young male has a prominent white mustache like Teddy Roosevelt. There is some internal debate on the origin of Izzy – my spouse says Izzy is named for the great author Isabel Allende and I say she is named for the great actress Isabella Rossellini. [ed. note: more, much more, below]
I have been able to establish a telepathic link with Teddy and Izzy. It turns out they are fans of poetry except they have registered a complaint with me for playing the soundtrack of the musical Cats. Their problem with Cats is about the poetry on which the musical is based (Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats). They think the poems are riddled with stereotypes and perpetuate old fashioned gender roles and the rigid association between breed and personality type.
I have also been discussing the WLBOTT community and ethos with them.
As they were playing with a ball of twine and they offered this limerick for the elders’ pleasure.
Oh, how a simple ball of twine is an object to adore!
Playing with it is anything but a chore
The ball’s winding and structure are beyond belief
And even in our saddest days it bring us relief
To unwind the ball of twine all over the living room floor
