Is it wrong to look for levity in these difficult times?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, are these difficult times? It’s easy to pontificate from the luxury of our WLBOTT <\/strong>double-wide (with indoor plumbing!<\/em>) while much of the world goes hungry. But, yes, life is very hard for many people, and it will become exponentially more challenging in the near future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I started to enumerate to troubles facing humanity, especially in light of the heartbreaking election, but the exercise quickly spiraled down into a dark void.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once again, Elder G brings clarity:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe laugh so we don\u2019t cry<\/strong>\u201d is a popular saying, and it captures a universal sentiment. It\u2019s often used to express the way humor can help us cope with hardships. Many cultures have similar phrases that highlight humor as a way to get through difficult times, like the Yiddish saying, “If I didn’t laugh, I’d cry,” or the Spanish proverb, “R\u00ede para no llorar<\/strong>” (“Laugh so you don\u2019t cry”). This sentiment beautifully captures the essence of resilience\u2014using laughter as a buffer against the weight of sorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
