{"id":38537,"date":"2024-10-25T08:21:01","date_gmt":"2024-10-25T13:21:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wlbott.com\/?p=38537"},"modified":"2024-10-25T08:29:32","modified_gmt":"2024-10-25T13:29:32","slug":"voting-in-texas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wlbott.com\/?p=38537","title":{"rendered":"Voting in Texas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This morning I was consulting with <strong>Elder G<\/strong>, our <strong>WLBOTT<\/strong> AI companion and part-time psycho-therapist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was bemoaning the fact that blue my vote in Texas is pretty inconsequential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Turns out that it is more likely that I:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">be struck by an asteroid &#8211; 1 in 700,000 in a given lifetime<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">win the lottery (except the Powerball)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">be attacked by a polar bear (in Texas) &#8211; 1 in several million<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">will live to the age of 110 &#8211; 1 in 5 million (<em>assuming I cut out the Kool 100s<\/em>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">date a supermodel &#8211; 1 chance in 88,000<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">win an Oscar &#8211; 1 in 11,500<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Being canonized as a saint \u2013 The odds of being officially declared a saint by the Catholic Church are about 1 in 20 million<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">struck by lightning in a given year &#8211; 1 in 1.2 million<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oddly, while reviewing this article with the <strong>WLBOTT<\/strong> editorial staff, I got push-back on the <strong>polar bear<\/strong> claim, but no push-back regarding my dating a supermodel. However, ChatGpt tells me there are no polar bears in Texas. And winning the Oscar!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Finally, My Vote Counts!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>WLBOTT:<\/strong> Okay, what are the odds that I will both a) date a supermodel and b) be canonized as a saint?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ELDER G:<\/strong> Let\u2019s crunch the numbers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8211; Dating a supermodel:<\/strong> As mentioned earlier, the odds are estimated to be around 1 in 88,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8211; Being canonized as a saint:<\/strong> The odds of being declared a saint are roughly 1 in 20 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To calculate the odds of both events happening, we multiply the probabilities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1 in 88,000 * 1 in 20,000,000 = <strong>1 in 1.76 trillion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, the odds of both dating a supermodel and being canonized as a saint are about 1 in 1.76 trillion! Pretty astronomical, but hey, nothing&#8217;s impossible, especially in the <strong>WLBOTT <\/strong>universe.
